- Talon Digest
- How do I post articles to the Talon Digest?
First, you should
be a member (see below), although that is not a requirement. All submissions
should go to talon@dsm.org. Subscription requests or notes to me are
NOT to be sent to this address. Do not e-mail me personally with posts
and ask me to post them for you.
- What does RTP mean?
Reply To Poster. That means that I've seen
that question answered many times before and the answer could probably be found
in the Digest Archives or on the Club DSM Website.
RTP is a recommendation that any replies should be sent directly to the poster.
This is not an absolute. If you think you have a new spin on the question, or
if you think you've never seen the answer before, or you would just like to
answer it, I'll print your answer anyway. After all, I could have made a
mistake in my recommendation.
- Where are the Digest Archives?
You can get access to them using
the Club DSM Website or
ftp://talon:eclipse@ftp.dsm.org/.
- Subscription Questions...
The easiest way to subscribe,
unsubscribe, or change your address is to use the form on the web page located
at http://www.dsm.org/digest/subscribe.htm.
If that is not working for you or you cannot access it, here are answers to the
most commonly asked questions. The following commands must be sent in the body
of a message to talon-request@dsm.org.
It is not necessary to include a subject line - it will be ignored. Note that
in most cases, it is not necessary to include your e-mail address. Only when
you know for certain that the e-mail address in the From: line of your outgoing
mail is mangled should you specify it.

The System Claims That I Am Not a Member of the List
You subscribed under an e-mail address that is different from the one your
mailer is currently sending
-OR-
You are specifying an
e-mail address that is similar to the one you used to subscribed, but is not the
same
-OR-
You subscribed using a completely different account
and forgot that you are having all e-mail forwarded to your new account.
No matter which, you need to find out what e-mail address you used to subscribe
to the list. If you were smart, you saved the original letter sent to you when
you subscribed - it has the exact address you used to subscribe. If not, tisk
tisk tisk, remember to save all such future postings when you subscribe to a
list. There is a cool command that will save you, however. Send the following
to talon-request@dsm.org
which guess-at-string-fragment
You will replace the "guess-at-string-fragment"
with any word or phrase that might be found in an address that you might have
used. Confusing? Try this example.
Joe Smith originally signed up as
jsmith@noone.com. He also has an e-mail address of joe_smith@noone.com. He now
needs to unsubscribe, but he forgot about jsmith, and the request fails. He can
simply send in
which smith
end
and the system will find all e-mail addresses with smith in them.
Another approach would be to use
which noone
end
and he would get a listing of all the accounts at noone.com (also, an
account like noone@nothere.com would show up in this list). Once Joe finds the
jsmith@noone.com, he can now issue
unsubscribe jsmith@noone.com
end
and he will get unsubscribed.
- Websites
- Club DSM
- What is the URL of Club DSM?
http://www.dsm.org/
- How do I become a member of Club DSM?
Go to the Club DSM
Website and enter the Club DSM section. Click on New Account and follow the
instructions therein.
- What are the membership dues?
There are none.
- I forgot my password. Could you please e-mail me my account
information?
There is a section under Club DSM just for this purpose.
Select "Forgot your password?" and you will get a form that will send
your password back to you via e-mail. If you have forgotten your password and
changed e-mail addresses at the same time... Sorry, I haven't addressed this
issue yet.
- Something in the Member Search is broken.
Yes, I know. It is
still in a prototype state. I am not very happy with how it turned out. I will
be making improvements to it soon.

- Is that your UniMog?
No, it belongs to Jeff Elings,
jeffe@di.com. Please direct all your
questions about this unique Swiss Rescue Vehicle to him.
- Did you really swim arcross the Garden Street underpass?
Yes,
but I did run and take a nice long hot shower right afterwards.
If after reading all of the above, you still think you might get an answer
out of me, you now have to select one of three e-mail addresses.
For business related to Technomotive, mail to
